Two kinds of people...

Those that do and those that don't. I once wanted to go see a Bob Dylan/Neil Young concert in a small venue. I was working out of town. It was coffee break and I was telling someone all the reasons I couldn't go, even though I really wanted to. He listened and when I was finished, he said "Now tell tell me all the reasons why you can do it"...epiphany!

On June 8th I will close on a 2 bedroom woodframe apartment in Edmonton. I did the math, but I didn't fret the details. The deal was done without me ever seeing the place. I didn't know the square footage. I didn't know what the floor coverings were. I did carefully consider the risk rewards. I did study the market. If the world collapses tomorrow, the sun falls out of the sky and I wake up to a bleak and desolate landscape, I will know that I have the qualities that allow me to pull the trigger. Priceless.

I now have a pension, an RRSP, a real estate investment, and an emergency fund. I will continue to build each of these pillars while keeping an eye open for businesses to invest in. This will complete the pillars I desire to have in place when I move to the next phase of my life in 1888 days. Freedom 55.

Ever wish you knew a plagarist? Well you know one now. Step away for the Doug. I don't think it's contagious, but... I decided to pursue a university degree. On my first essay (ever in my life), I got 60%. I thought it was good but apparently I couldn't fake the fact that I didn't know the proper format for an essay. I was determined to do better on my final essay. I scoured the internet and read the better part of three books over a one month period. Collated all I had learned, paying special attention to the tutors notes from my last essay. I sent it in with glowing heart, assured I had improved greatly, eagerly awaiting my mark. Instead I got a phonecall telling me my tutor had made an official code of conduct complaint charging me with plagarism, and that in fact the university had found this to be true and I would get zero as my mark. I had six verbatim sentences in a 10 page essay. 3 of the sentences had the proper footnotes, but not the required quotation marks. Spirit Crushing. When I explained that it was only my second essay ever, and I never learned the proper format, they agreed to let me rewrite, but the code of conduct violation is staying on my record. Plagarist. 65% on the final essay. I have flair but the thesis was disjointed. We all agree my next course will be english. Haven't got my final mark yet, but it will be close. I will continue. When I started this journey i remember how hard it was. Where to start? What to do? I remember doing the material and getting to the quizzes and realizing I had retained nothing. zero. zip. zilch. By the end my brain was reconfigured enough to understand and retain the material. I will do better.

The geneological detective that I have hired in Ireland has found my grandmothers baptismal certificate, but not her birth certificate. Progress. The B/C is the last piece I need.

I'm thinking Egypt for Xmas.

My focus is back to debt freedom.

I'll be 50 in 45ish days.
